Current Trail Conditions

As every other mountain biker in our area I have recently had the bug to ride on the trails more than I can tell you.  In fact Tuesday just to be in the mountains I climbed up the dirt road below the North Ogden Divide. Is this the funnest ride in the entire world? No way, but I know that I can ride there even when its wet and not damage the road because its covered in rocks.  This is not the case with a lot of the other very cool trails we have in our area, I guess the point is be very careful where your riding this time of the year so were not the user group damaging the trails we love so much.  If it looks to muddy or your sinking in throw the towel in for the day, countless spring and summer days are just around the corner.

Trail Condidtions!

As a lot of you I have been riding quite a bit already and the trails that are ready have been amazing.  I was thinking though that in a year that has seen the popularity of fat tire bikes and good weather it is still important to remember that the trails that we all love a supper sensitive this time of the year.  I have been on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail North of 12th street for about a week and its stable for riding baring any other adverse weather.  It sounds like the Shoreline South of 12th street is still wet and should be avoided, as you guys are out on trails let us know how they look and we will post it up.

As far as trail conditions, if there are sections of the trail system that are in need of repair flip me a note and we will pass  it along proper channels or organize the work our selves if it is appropriate.  Welcome to another good year, we're excited like you all.

Beatiful Weather For Riding, Trail Work Questions?

I went for one of the best rides I've had this year this morning over on the northern shoreline.  It had just rained, the dirt was perfect, and man the smells of spring were everywhere.  I did notice something though, it appears that someone, or group of people are removing a lot of rocks on the section of trail from 9th street over to where the canal road ends.  I think these people have the best of intentions and don't understand that they are removing rocks that for the most part were left on purpose.  Some were left to make riders slow down, some were fun to ride over and in the worst cases the rocks removed actually cause bigger problems than them being left.  If any of you run into these folks let them know that their intent to work on the trail is good, its just being done wrong.  Have them get a hold of Matt at Skyline because that is our section of trail to maintain and we have lots of projects that they could help us with. I just want to make sure the trails are left fun, safe, yet in some cases challenging.

Trail Work Saturday Dec. 1st, Northern BST

I am late with this post and sorry.  There will be another trail work session this Saturday the 1st at 9:00a.m., working on the northern Bonneville Shoreline Trail.  The meeting will be the same as the last couple which is at the end of Mountain Road.  To get there you act as though you were going over the Divide, as you head east towards the mountain take a left on 1050E and follow until you hit 3300N, turn right or east and follow to Mountain Road, turn left and follow to end, find nice out of the way place to park and get ready to dig.

Trail Work Rescheduled

Ok, so mother nature pretty much shot down any chance of working on the trial this weekend.  I was in touch with Weber Pathways and they got in touch with the gentleman  from IMBA that is building the trail and it was decided that there is no need to suffer this weekend when there will be plenty of nice days coming.  What we decided was to reschedule for next Saturday which is the 3rd of November.

Plan on meeting at the gate at the end of mountain road.  To get there you act as though you were going over the Divide, as you head east towards the mountain take a left on 1050E and follow until you hit 3300N, turn left or east and follow to Mountain Road, turn left and follow to end, find nice out of the way place to park and get ready to dig.  If you have any questions call 801-394-7700, or send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Thanks Trail Work

Dig was awesome this morning.  This trail when it is done will be a very fun flowing trail, contoured with berms and features that will make it challenging for riders of all different levels.  Special thanks to Eric Greenwood for digging a little dirt with us this morning.  I will keep putting up dig times so maybe we all can ride this sucker before we have snow on the ground.

Trail Work Friday September 28th

I was ask by Weber Pathways if we would be willing to go and dig on the new trail coming off the North Ogden Divide this Friday the 28th at 8:30a.m., I said we would love too.  They will be having us go over work that has been started by IMBA, basically smoothing and finishing after the trail cat has run over the route.  In addition to getting work done on the trail it was mentioned that the Standard Examiner would be coming up to do an article.  As before in previous posts remember that in addition to volunteering Skyline Cycle will offer 25% off any one accessory if you show up and do a little digging with us.  I will have the discount cards there with me.  If you are interested we will meet at the first pull on the right and or south side of the road as you head up the North Ogden Divide out of Ogden. Questions give a call to the store 801-394-7700, or shoot and email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Trail Maintenance, September 23rd, Douglas Trail Head

We will be working on the Douglas trail head this Sunday September 23rd at 8:00a.m..  We will be performing trail restoration and marking re-vegetation areas that are being improperly used instead of the trail.  We will also be working on slowing water flow down the trail and also through a number of ravines that intersect the trail as it switch backs up toward the canal road and the above trail systems.  Douglas street is located on the east side of the road as you travel north on Harrison blvd towards 2nd and Harrison.  If you reach the gas station on 2nd and Harrison you have gone to far.  Once you find Douglas follow it all the way up to the parking lot and we will be working directly above the parking area.  All you need to bring is yourself, some closed toe shoes, gloves and water. Hope to see you there.  If you have any questions call 801-394-7700, or send an e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Trail Maintenance July 15th

We are planning another trail maintenance on the 15th of July.  We will be working on the trail at various points in between the ninth st. trail head and the northern nature center trail head on the Boneville Shoreline Trail.  We will be meeting at the Jump off trail head and then walking up to the sections that need a little cleaning up.  We will meet at 7:30a.m. and leave the parking lot by 7:45a.m..  If by any chance you are late, walk up the trail until you hit the canal road and then take a left and follow the road until you hit the end.  You should see a crew there that can further direct you to a work spot.

Snakes, Group Ride, Trail Maintenance, Group Road Ride

So a word on the trails is that there are snakes all over, dogs and I came across a three foot blow snake the other day but a lot of folks coming through the store are telling us rattlers are everywhere, so be careful while your out watch your dogs, also cougar tracks have been spotted recently.  A note with dogs is to check with your vet and make sure they have rattle snake anti-venom on hand.

Trail conditions across the boards are dry and dusty, on the bench you should ride early if you want to stay cool.

Speaking of the shoreline thanks to all who showed up and volunteered there time and maintained the trails we all use, you guys/ladies kick ass and need to be thanked. From us at Skyline know there is a 25%m discount waiting on any one accessories.  Hint, Hint, working on the trails with us is a killer way to get a discount.

Group road ride is on for tomorrow baring any natural disaster so meet up at 6:00p.m., leave at 6:30p.m.. Two groups, fast and no drop, I lead the no drop and follow the same route as the fast group so know if you want to burn it up but you burn out we'll pick you up on the way in.  Questions e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
